The South Carolina National Guard College Assistance Program (SCNG CAP), established in 2007, offers financial assistance to South Carolina Army and Air National Guard members by providing incentives for service in either the South Carolina Army National Guard or South Carolina Air National Guard. SCNG CAP is administered by the CHE in partnership with the South Carolina National Guard.

The South Carolina Military Credit Mobility Task Force was established to examine ways for South Carolina service members to maximize credit mobility towards certifications, associates, or bachelor’s degrees, rather than electives. The task force is a collaboration among the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, institutions of higher education, the South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and other stakeholders to review existing transfer and articulation agreements established to help servicemembers use transferable credit toward degree completion at our higher education institutions.

The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE) Resources provides Veterans and military families with the tools and resources needed to succeed academically and professionally.

Veterans Education and Training at the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE) is designated as South Carolina’s State Approving Agency (SAA) responsible for approving and supervising Veteran’s Education programs at in-state postsecondary institutions and career training centers offering education and training to veterans and their eligible dependents under the Veterans Education Assistance Program.

Military and Veteran Services was created on January 1, 2015, to better serve the growing veteran and veteran family member population at Coastal Carolina University.

Our mission is to assist veterans in making the transition to college from the military and the transition to the workforce after college; to utilize the military and veteran services team to retain and graduate veterans and their family members; and to conduct training for staff and faculty on military and veterans issues.

Each of the 33 public institutions of higher education in South Carolina can be categorized into one of four sectors: research institutions, doctorate professional universities, four-year comprehensive teaching institutions, and technical colleges. The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education coordinates and conducts oversight of these sectors to advance South Carolina’s economic development and general welfare, in support of the mission for the state’s postsecondary education system set by the General Assembly. A fifth sector, independent institutions, is comprised by the state’s private, nonprofit colleges and universities.
